VINTAGE vs. MODERN

                                            Which Is For You?

A  VINTAGE  INSPIRED  DRESS  VS.  A  MODERN  STYLE  DRESS

MOOD AND ATTITUDE

Feel like showing off your waist? Go for a cinched waist. A simple dress with a relaxed figure flattering silhouette. Get some flair with your wear. The 1950's was a decade marked by its elegant and feminine fashion. The iconic style of this era was characterized by full-skirt dresses, nipped-in waists, and fitted bodices pencil skirts. Just the age, craftsmanship, patterns, and styles...so nostalgic! They didn't come across as lifeless. These dresses were typically made from lightweight fabrics like cotton or silk and were often adorned with colorful prints and intricate embroidery. In recent years, vintage-inspired '50's dresses have made a comeback. If you're wanting to feel femine, a bit sexy without showing all body parts, and want to still show off your body...add that perfect vintage dress/skirt to your outfit without looking dated. Update accessories or shoes, don't dress head to toe in an all '50's decade. Unless you want to go for it...go for that rockabilly look. But don't make it a look and not a costume. Make it your own, the only rule is, unless you want it to look like a costume, don't wear it like a costume. It's about the approach, your behavior, the genre, style.

VINTAGE-INSPIRED '50'S DRESSES

Vintage inspired '50's styles have become increasingly popular in recent years, with many designers and fashion enthusiasts embracing the timeless elegance of this era. One of the advantages of vintage-inspired '50's dresses is their classic appeal. They add a touch of femininity and sophistication to any outfit. Wear for a casual look or a coctail party. They also accentuate the curves of the wearer. They were found to be more flattering to a full figured bodice. However, some may find these dresses too formal or too traditional for wearing. Keep in mind, you're not getting a one of a kind unique individual piece. It's a world turned into mass marketing, advertised and mass factory made...it's mass produced. However, you can get the benefit of an inspired style with an alternative to the crowd following trends. It's a way to mimic a time when women showed off their curves while giving you a more femine feel that makes you feel good aboul expressing yourself and your sparkle.

AGE FACTOR

You also have to consider age. Unfortunately, you do. You don't want to look dated. For example, you didn't wear that outfit on purpose, you just haven't updated your wardrobe, you're stuck in the past. To pull off your look and not look like you're wearing a costume, please don't mix era's. For example don't wear a '70's headband with a '50's style dress. Keep in mind, you don't always need to go thrifting, you don't have to buy a used '50's dress/skirt to get the look you're after. Try shopping at stores like "Luciani Enterprises 702" and buy a new dress/skirt that's vintage inspired. You'll get the look your after without having to find that one of a kind piecet. Coco Chanel would mix real pearls with faux pearls. Mix a '50's style dress and a little vintage costume jewelry with a new modern heel. Don't go full pin-up hair if you don't want to. However, when wearing a pencil skirt, do a pin-up hair style with modern accessories and shoes. Midi dress or skirt is a good length to go.

A VINTAGE SKIRT

If you're lucky enough to find a true vintage piece, that's what piece you should let be the star. It's not a mass manufactured piece. It's special, a piece to be adorn. A dress or skirt made in the '50's was meant to flatter a woman's body without showing the body. The necklines usually allowed you to show off your necklace, maybe a delicate strand of pearls, or a neck scarf. Belts were covered with matching material, buttons were of better quality, everything made, like those small touches took more time to make. Just remember, the only rule is not to look like you're wearing a costume...unless you're wearing a costume. Think about what image you want to portray and go for it. Let your vintage dress/skirt be the showpiece. It's amazing to find a one of a kind, knowing you're showing off style, not a trending mass made piece. So, how do these vintage pieces compare to modern dresses/skirts? Let's take a closer look.

PLEASING TO THE EYE

Find your creative aesthetic that's pleasing to the eye. You can easily layer a piece over your full skirt or full flair pleated dress with a cardigan or wear a boring white blouse with a high-waisted pencil skirt. Some other tricks, take a vintage brooch and pin it to your belt, necklace, a neck scarf to give your vintage inspired skirt for that perfect vintage touch. Wear a pair of vintage inspired heels, Mary-Janes, or a peep toe ankle wraps with a modern dress, skirt, pant, and set back and wait for the compliments to come...and they will. Take a pair of contempary heels and pair them with a vintage inspired full swing dress, halter dress, or pencil skirt and  add some estate costume jewelry to your outfit for a touch of the past. Take a pair of jeans flipped up and add a set of costume jewelry. Modern full dresses, on the other hand are designed with contemporary fashion trends in mind. These dresses may feature a full skirt, but they often have a more relaxed, flowing silhouette that is less structured than vintage '50's dresses. They come in a variety of styles, from maxi dresses to wrap dresses and may feature bold prints or graphic designs. One of the advantages of modern full dresses is their versatility. Just like '50's full dresses they can be worn for a wide range of occasions, from casual to dressy. A modern dress just like a vintage-inspired dress can be dressed up or down depending on the accessories. However, some may find modern full dresses too trendy, but you still get the look your after.

WHICH  IS  RIGHT  FOR  YOU?

Choosing between vintage-inspired '50's dresses and modern full dresses ultimately comes down to personal preference and the occasion. If you prefer a classic, timeless look, that isn't trendy, and you're looking for that one of a kind piece, with those tiny details with a quality making, you might want to go for the real deal. Get that vintage piece that's worth the money. You'll feel the difference in the material, you'll find yourself in a state of glamor, you'll know you're possesing a sought after ensemble. If you don't have the time or want to invest the money but want the look, then a vintage-inspired '50's dress/skirt  may be the perfect choice. You'll have more options readily available and you're more than likely to find your size. It doesn't matter if you're looking for a relaxed look, a more put together style, a full flair swing dancing dress, or a pencil skirt to show off your figure, be sure to choose a dress that reflects your personal style. You want to feel confident and beautiful.
