How To Take Care of Your Skin

Let's talk about your makeup routine. What are your favorite influencers telling you? There's experts everywhere, even the non-experts that think they're an expert have an opinion on makeup. We all have a view on what we believe is beautiful. Learning lessons on geting all dolled up always grabs a makeup addicts attention. However, are you reading about how to take care of your skin? You can put all the makeup you want on. but if you don't have your skin prepped...your makeup will not look as beautiful as you want it to be. Just think of all that bacteria colonizing into your pores, build up of dirt and old makeup sitting on your skin.  It only takes a few minutes a day to plan out your skincare routine, we can do it together right now.

Skincare is the pillar to any makeup. Before you paint a wall you prep it. If you want your paint job to come out smoothly, evenly, and more pleasing to the eye, make sure it's prepped first. You also want to first prep your skin before you put any makeup on. Most importantly keep your skincare regime a daily habit. Simple steps such as washing your face after you remove your makeup, wash, tone, treat, moisturize, and use eye cream, you'll realize how simple this habit will become, it will be like brushing your teeth, you won't even think about it, you'll just do it.

Step One: Remove your makeup. It's not the funnest part of your skincare routine, but it's a neccessity. Get a gentle eyemakeup remover to take off that mascara, the long lasting eyeliner, any build up. Then wet your face with warm water and wash it with the correct face wash according to your skin type. What kind of skin do you have? Do you have larger pores and oilier skin? Try using a liquid face wash, a gel or foam cleanser. What if you're face is dry, flaky? Get a creamy or milky face cleanser. Instead of using your fingers it can be more effective to wash with a Clarisonic or a product like it. It helps get into places your fingers can't get to and it removes dirt and cleans out the pores on a deeper level. Once you've washed your skin, cup your hands with water and rinse your face 10 times. Yes, rinse well with cold water, closing the pores back up.

Step Two: Toner. Keep that bacteria from colonizing. It's not a one size fits all product. However, it's pretty straightforward.  You're going to use this product after washing and before you apply your serum. Soak cotton pad with and swipe it all over your face. One with a glycoliand. salicylic acid, can help get oily skin more matte. If you're skin is dry, one with rosewater or vitamin E is great for hydration.

Step Three: Serum. A serum is highly concentrated and contain active ingredients that go to a deeper level of the skin. If your skins dry use a hyaluronic acid serum, giving skin a deeply hydrating extra bonus to keep skin hydrating. For a brighter, smoother, appearance when it comes to dry skin you can use a lactic acid serum.Use a salicylic acid serum for a powerful acne fighting serum, unclogging pores and helps with blemishes. Vitamin C will protect the skin from pollution, help with discoloration, or hyperpigmentation. There are so many different types of serums. Find one that's right for you. They make a huge difference when taking care of your skin. Your serum must be topped with face moisturizer.

Step Four: Moisturizer. If you have oily skin you do not skip this step. Every skin type needs to use a moisturizer. You may think your skin's already oily, why would you add more moisture to it. If you're oily and don't use a face moisturizer...you're skin will get more oily. Your skin is producing too much sebrum. You need to regulate your skin. Oily skin should use a water based moisturizer, a lightweight formula. For you dry skin friends, you already know the dryer your skin the more likely you are to get wrinkles. You already want to feel that creamy thick and hydrating cream on your face.

Step Five: Eye Cream. Listen to the directions on how to apply your eye cream. Your eyes have a different type of skin than the rest of your face. It's more sensitive. When applying eye cream use your ring finger and pat your cream around the eye bone until it seeps in. When it comes to eye cream more is not better. You only need a little. You also do not want to put it on your eye lid, just the bone. Remember heat rises, the cream will already rise up towards the eye, so you do not need to put it right underneath your eyelashes. You always want to brighten the eye area. Eye cream fights wrinkles, hydrates, brightens, it fight those crows feet, if at night maybe something with retinol in it, but remember not to use retinol during the day. There's a difference between using eye cream for wrinkles, and using an eye product for dark circles/puffiness. Different ingredients for different reasons. Products come in different forms. Something with caffeine is good for dark circles, and make sure to gently move your fingers in circular motions for the puffiness to break up the blood pooling.

So there you have it; wash, tone, treat, moisturizer, and eye cream. A couple other things to consider would be adding an eye serum under your eye cream. But most importantly, no matter what color your skin is, whatever tone you have, use a sunscreen. Even if it's raining outside, use sunscreen. The reflection on the windshield, the snow, the water, it all effects your skin. Everyone needs to use sunscreen. If you have fair skin, you may want to prevent skin cancer by using sunblock. Yes it's thick and usually really white. Try mixing it in with your body lotion or body cream. But don't forget the sunscreen.

To get into your skincare regime, remember, it's all about habits. Once you consistently do this for a week, morning and night, you'll keep doing it. Please don't think because you work from home or you're a stay at home mom you don't need to take care of your skin.  It's like brushing your teeth. Brushing your teeth morning and night is already a habit, make your skincare a morning and night habit. When things are out of sight they tend to be out of mind. So keep your 5 skincare products in sight. It's the biggest organ of your body.
