Can The Right Heel And Lipstick Get You The Guy?
Could the right heel and right lipstick get you the right boyfriend? In the 1950's dating was much different than it was today. A teenage girl like Susie found it challenging to be socially accepted let alone finding a way to get a boyfriend. It wasn't proper to ask a guy out in the 1950's. You didn't want to be called a floozy. Some girls played hard to get, it was a sign of desperation to accept going out with someone so quickly. What about just getting someone to ask you out? For many young women it was important to find a boyfriend to take them to dances and social events. To attract a boyfriend a girl would often focus on her appearance and social status. Susie had neither. What if you weren't the priettiest? Sitting home on a Saturday night with curlers in your hair wasn't going to get you a date. Chances were slim for you to get asked to the next dance, let alone getting a good looking guy to carry your books to class.
How was a girl to get a date? Susie was intelligent, but she wasn't the class brain. As far as looks went she wasn't a plain Jane but she was no Marilyn. She wasn't a cheerleader, she wasn't involved in any activities at school, and she didn't hang out with the popular crowd, she was just there. The other teens said,"hi" when they passed her in the hallways, but again, she was just kinda there. A bystander, there wasn't anything special about her. She'd stay in her room after school laying on her bed daydreaming. She wanted to be in a romantic relationship, going steady with some cute guy, and maybe sitting and sharing a milkshake would be ideal. She didn't have anyone in particular in mind. She just wanted some kind of approval, some kind of acceptance, she wanted to feel special to someone. She watched how some of the girls acted around the guys in school. She tried not to pay attention when the boys turned their heads as Paige, one of the prettier girls in school, walked down the hall. Susie caught one of the boys gazing intently on her legs as she stood at her locker. Paige wasn't beautiful, she wasn't ugly though, she knew how to dress, but she had an irritating laugh. Boys were always asking her out, she wasn't quick to say no either.
One day after school Susie came home to find her mother hosting a Tupperware party. They weren't trading receipes or gasping about any of the new Tupperware products. All the women were so busy complementing on one of the ladys high heel shoes, "and my husband can't stop complementing my legs," Susie overheard her laughing. She paused to look over at the heels the woman was wearing. "I even got stopped at the grocery store, two different women asked were I got them." Why were all of them making such a big deal over a pair of shoes? The next day at school she could still hear her mom and the other ladys laughs echoing in her head. Between classes Susie found herself in the bathroom washing her hands while Paige was touching up her lipstick. "Legs and lips," Paige said as she reapplied her lipstick. Susie turned and looked up at her. Paige never made eye contact with her. "If you want to get a guys attention try wearing some different shoes, a pair of heels, and maybe put on some lipstick. Not red...it's not your color." Then she walked out of the bathroom.
Research shows men like the way a woman walks when she wears a pair of heels. A girl seems to give off a sense of confidence and looks more attractive in a pair of heels. It doesn't need to be a 6" high heel or a pair of stillettos. A heel pushes out your chest, just leaning back slightly tucks in and tigtens your backside. As for lipstick, it's a go to. It changes your look completely, instantly brightening up your face. Are you looking to elevate your style and add a touch of sophistication to your wardrobe?
