COLLECTING TINS

Antique And Vintage Tin Containers Canisters

I walked into a small boutique attached to a coffee shop. There was a sophisticated elegance to the room. I felt as if I was transported back in time when I looked up to see all the "Coca-Cola" memorabilia. It was nostalgic. My eyes glanced up to gaze at the antique tin coffee cans, the vintage containers varied from pop-corn to cigar cases, all made of metal tin. My thoughts began to escape me as I got caught up in the intricate detailing on these canisters. I was eager to find out why people valued these items. I started to investigate on the how these treasures were originated. I couln't comprehend why these tin containers where so in demand. Peanut Butter, Bubble Gum, Potato Chips, and Cereal....and so so much more. What made one want to start collecting empty tins, some with great patina, others almost rusted, what's to give?

Let's Investigate

My curiosity led me to examining why these so sought after must-haves were so sought after. It was alluring, captivating, and some of these tin cans were captivating to say the least. I started talking to people, some intelligentuals, some interior decorators, boutique owners, and some people just loved the nostalgic memories and liked looking at these cylinders, containers, boxes made of tin metal. People collect tin metal vintage containers and boxes for a variety of reasons. Some collect them for historical value, as these containers often reflect the design and aesthetics of a particular time period. Others collect them for their unique artwork and intricate details. Some people enjoy the nostalgia associated with these vintage items, while other appreciate the craftsmanship that went into making them. Overall, collecting tin metal vintage and antique containers and boxes can be a way for people to connect with the past and appreciate the beauty of everyday objects from bygone eras.

Tin Antiques Changing Restaurant Decor

"Look at that place...looks interesting." It had an old school phone booth outside, an old gas station pump, and a cool antique Coca-Cola machine decoration their outdoor entrance. It looked like a cool rockabilly restaurant, nostalgic, with a bit of country/'50's flair. Once entering the door, there were historic arcticles framed from "Life" magazine, there were a lot of advertising signs mounted on the way, then when we were guided to our table things took a twist. The walls had jazz instruments, guitars, it was if a Tiki Bar and a "Hard Rock Cafe," had conjoined to make a cross breed restaurant. It all flowed together so well. The tables, shelf on the wall, the bar, the hallway to the bathroom, and of course the outside patio had such an array of vintage tins on display. On their own you'd think it would look like a junck yard, a pile of old tin cans, containers, cylinder, advertisement signs, however the decor was displayed so beautiful. Pieces had the right amound of patina, there was a beauty to some of them that had a dent in them.

Some cans were displayed and used as an organizer that stored old fashioned candy that was being sold. Remember Juicy Fruit Gum? It was once sold in a tin can, not just a paper wrapper. Some old Asian tea canisters were displayed as wall art by the outside Tiki Bar. The tin signs showed off pin-up girls, old cigarette ads, some great Coca-Cola rare designs and some Coca-Cola embossed, not so rare plates and signed advertising boards made in tin. It was a nice take back and a relaxing step forward that gave you a smile when you walked out the door.

That Perfect Finishing Touch To Any Room

There are some reasons decorators use a vintage tin to give a room that perfect finishing touch. A bookshelf can look cluttered or boring, but once you coordinate the top shelf with some books standing straight up, then have a couple laying flat with a small plant and a tiny antique tin cigar case, or an Asian tin tea container that pulls out your color theme, it's so pleasing to the eye. Just the way someone displays something can make a huge difference and compliment a room, instead of overwhelming a room with a bunch of stuff, take a step back and take somethings away, and add a touch of art to an area, and something as simple as a vintage tin can definitely be a piece of art. You can display a bunch of tins together to display, or add one in the entryway that you can keep your keys or sunglasses in, you'll always know where they are. Take a cool tin cylinder on display at your kitchen table or bar to house their cell phones for an hour while you sit together for a meal. A cute tin in the nursery, an elegant touch for the office or study can transform your mood and your room.
